Writer Habits

Hey! Look, finally a use for one of my tags!

I’m going to try to get back to a proper posting schedule, both for this blog and for writing in general. It’s been strange, the way that things have been going. Motherhood certainly shifted my life (for the better, because I couldn’t imagine something more joyful than my son and his sweet little smile!). Now I’m trying to figure out where blogging, writing, and everything in between that used to be how I identified myself.

Right now, my only identity is Mama.

I’m working on that. I’m going to get back to daily posting — I’m going to get back to themed posting. I have a journal that I’m planning that out in, so I’m really excited. Today is my first step towards that!

This blog is here for multiple reasons. Both as a declaration of my intent, so that I have you guys to judge me if I randomly fail… and also as an open suggestion box. Do you guys have anything that you’d like to see? I’d love to get blogs that you’re all interested in. Let me know!

Until then, keep reading and writing!

Weekly Writing Update

So, this month has been going pretty well, as far as my writing productivity goes. I won’t take a picture of my calendar again until the end of the month, because it looks best when it’s completely filled out. I’m also going to do a Bullet Journal tour at the end of the month, so you guys can see how well the month of June filled the pages out.

But I will go ahead and show you my Excel document for the month, as of yet!

June Update

So, as you can see, my monthly word total is 35,561 wordsI’ve exceeded my monthly goal of 30k words, but I’m really going to be pushing for 50,000 for the month. That means that I need to really double down on my writing and get a bunch done. I’m still shooting for my 1million words in a year goal, so I need to get onto that.

I’ve been doing a lot of rewriting on my novel this month, as you can see in the little column. 10k words so far – rewriting is much harder than when I was originally writing it, but it’s been fun to look at it again and try to reimagine it through different eyes. I’ve been really wanting to get as much of it done as I could, and I’m going to put a lot of my effort through the rest of the month into getting as much of that complete as possible.

Depending on how I do will be what I do for my July Camp NaNo project. I’m either going to keep on with my re-writes, or work on finishing my Zombie novel from 2014 NaNo (I won NaNo, but I didn’t complete the novel.) Whatever the case, I plan on having another completed novel/rewritten manuscript by the end of Camp NaNo! I intend to do daily blogs to keep you guys updated on the progress of that, as well as throwing out writing prompts to help people who are stuck with their writing, so stay tuned for that in the month of July.

Other than that, my writing has been going extremely well. I’ve started a bullet journal, as I mentioned, and it’s been helping me to stay organized. I’m going to be doing a blog soon as an updated tour of my writing desk downstairs, because I have a lot of new elements to it that are really helping me to stay on task and stay organized, and you know that I love to share all of my organization tips with you guys, so you can see what helps me with getting my work done!

Also, if you haven’t noticed, I’ve started doing daily Creativity Affirmation blogs, and they’re really coming along well. They’re helping me to write, and I urge you to check them out – they aren’t just affirmations for me. They’re affirmations for us all as writers.

My fanfictions are coming along pretty well. I didn’t get the chapter that I wanted posted, but I’ve been working on it. I’m a little slow going, because that particular chapter is all about finding a perfect balance between two characters, so I need to make sure that I keep it properly aligned. I should have that done within the next week, and I’ll happily link it here when I complete it.

The only other thing that I can think to talk about is that I had a dream last night. I mentioned it in my latest Creativity Affirmation blog. I told myself a story for nearly 3 hours after I woke up, and I’m going to be writing it soon! If you guys are interested, I’ll post excerpts of it!

So, yeah. That’s basically all for my little scattered update. My blog has a bit more structure and a schedule to it now. I’ll list it out below:

  • Daily Creativity Affirmation Blogs
  • Sunday: Writing Prompt Posted
  • Monday: Weekly Writing Update
  • Tuesday: Writing Tips or Thoughts
  • Wednesday: Writing Quotes or Flash Fiction
  • Thursday: Writing Tag/Book Tag Thursday
  • Friday: Book Review/Reading Update
  • Saturday: Writing Prompt Response

So, this is just a tentative blog schedule.  Only the things in bold are set in stone. If you want to participate in my weekly Writing Prompts (click it for this weeks), you can get your writing featured on Saturday when I post my response. Everyone who writes a response and links me (so that I can find you) will get a link to their blog and story posted on Saturday! It’s been really fun participating with you all so far, and I love seeing what you can come up with. We’re all such creative beings, so it’s amazing that so many different stories can occur from the same prompt! Make sure to check those out if you haven’t yet! If you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see in the blog, just let me know! I’m always willing and open to posting about anything that you all are interested.

And finally, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for the support that you’re giving to this blog. It’s really inspiring and wonderful to know that the things that I post can help you all in your writing, and it’s been a real pleasure to interact and get to know all of you as well! Keep being amazing, everyone! And keep on writing.

Until the next blog!
