NaNo Day 29 – Victory is Sweet

2015-11-29_zps1i9kjyi3

Sorry about the sparse blog posts. I’ve been recovering from a very deep and awesome writing coma. I’ve come out the other side of it, and I can say that I feel triumphant in NaNoWriMo! At 94,321 words, my first draft of RipTide is complete. Tomorrow, I’ll have pictures of the pretty, printed out version of it.

I have to say, winning NaNo this year was very nice. As I mentioned in earlier posts, it’s been a very healing process for me. Usually, writing is work – fun work sometimes, but still work. This year, for the first time, it was just about my emotions and letting it out. I don’t know if that’s gonna be conducive for as good of a first draft as usual, but we will see. The point is, I finished it! After I give it a break, I’ll go back to editing it. I need some decent critique partners. x.x I just don’t know where to look for those.

For the people who are still working on their novel – if you’re almost there or behind… you’re amazing. You’re doing something that no one else can do. Look around you, at the first ten people you see (unless you’re at a write in >_< don’t be cheeky), how many of those people can say they wrote 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 or 50,000 words? Probably not very many of them if any. You’re amazing ‚̧ You’re doing a wonderful job. Keep it up. Even if you think you can’t win, there’s still a chance that you can. I had a 15k day first day! You can always do it! And even if you don’t, just the act of writing as you have is an astounding accomplishment. We’re all winners.

Past NaNo, I wanted to give some projections of what my blog is going to look like. I’m still going to try to write every day. I’m going to keep spreadsheets of how I do each month, so I can reflect on if there are high points of writing for me (other than November, when I turn into a monster). I plan on doing Daily Prompts on here, and Weekly Writing Updates – I’m not sure what day I’ll schedule that for. Maybe Monday, or Sunday. I’m not sure. I also want to still try to crank out writing advice as much as possible – I really appreciate all of the positive comments and thanks that I get for that. You’re all amazing, I’m just telling you things from my own, personal experience.

So! I’ll talk to you all soon. I need to get to working on my next project today if I can. ūüėČ Tell you more about that on Tuesday when NaNo is over!

Until then, keep reading and writing!

When You Don’t Blog

… because you aren’t sure what to blog about. I try to get useful blogs out there, and sometimes I just feel like I’m running in circles for a topic. (I notice this is when I feel a little less inspired to write in general.) Anyway, I’m going to be doing another blog tonight ( My writing challenge ), I just wanted to go ahead and write this. ^_^ If you guys want to suggest ANY topics for me to touch on, whether it’s a certain novel, a writing tip/trick/advice, a movie review, some creative story, scrivener tutorials, anything at all, just let me know! I always love hearing from you!

A Patreon

So, I’ve decided to go ahead and make myself a patreon. I’ve had a few people telling me how I should do it for a while now… so I figured, what the heck? Even if I only make a dollar a month… that’s a dollar that I didn’t have before! Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about doing this just yet… but I knew if I didn’t go ahead and DO it, I wouldn’t be able to figure out how I felt about it. I think that all writers deserve to make a living doing what they love, honestly. If I get enough money off of this, I’ll be putting it into helping other people do the same.

I will copy/paste the content that I am using here, and then I’ll probably do a follow-up blog tomorrow of how I feel about having launched it! So… enjoy below the content of my Patreon! ¬† (CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE ACTUAL SITE!)

Hey there, my name is Amanda! I’ve been writing for well over a decade – it seems like I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember.

It is what I do. It’s what I am passionate about. I want, more than anything in this world to tell you a story that will burn into your mind and keep you on the edge of your seat. If I can bring you a moment of joy, then I’ve done my job. This Patreon page was created so that I could continue to do just that!

Four years ago, I left my home and everything that I owned in Kentucky and moved to California – things here have been fantastic. When I moved here, I started a commission business, and I’ve been running that steadily… but I want more now. I want to create my own content. I want to share my dreams made tangible by way of story with the world! You can help me do that – you can help me live my dream.

Any amount of monthly donation that you make will grant you access to my monthly content. I promise to upload the following:

  • One Chapter from the two novels that I have a current copywrite on and am in the process of editing for publication! (Either a Fantasy called Cerulean Darkness or a Zombie Apocalypse novel entitled Limbo.)
  • At least One short story of my own creation (and your suggestion!)
  • I will also put up at least one blog post per week on my blog, located¬†Here. These blogs posts give writing advice, writing tips, writing tricks, writing prompts, and just general discussion. I also include creative writing here, so it’s double your rewards, double your fun!
  • When goals are met, I will also post one vlog a week, either reading some of my creative writing content or talking about writing tips, tricks, and strategy.

Your support honestly means the world to me – you are making it possible for me to continue doing what I love, what I dream of, and what I truly feel I was put on this earth to do. I’m here to bring you joy, laughter, sadness, tears, emotion. Will you help me do that for the world?

Thanksgiving and Winning NaNoWriMo

So, first of all, I’d like to give a huge thank you to my NaNoWriMo theme song. xD

Anyway, I really have to say that NaNo was a bit of a task this year. Between worrying about my poor pup and having to deal with the fact that I forced myself into a rewrite half way through…

Well, let’s just say that last year went a LOT smoother than this year.

Still, I managed to win with a few days left over. The difference between this year and last year is that I didn’t finish the novel. Last year, I wrote 90,000 words and completed the novel. This year, I am far off from that. It’s a much more complex story, and something that I haven’t worked with as far as writing goes. Still, I’m proud of it, and it’s something that I’m going to continue on.

I’ve really enjoyed NaNo this year, however – it’s been great to spend time with my friends, encourage them, and know that my words can help to make a difference. I love that I can give someone advice or encouragement and it helps them to get along with their story.

You guys have been amazing – you’ve responded to blogs, messages, etc. I love your enthusiasm and help! Over the next month or two, I will be finishing the novel that I started, and then I’m going to chose if I would like to edit it or the NaNo project from last year. Either way, i’m going to start polishing it up and getting it ready to query. Any tips/tricks/advice on that would be forever useful!

As it is, I had an amazing Thanksgiving, and I hope that you all are as well. I’m going to be doing some writing sprints/word wars on my twitter @EgoDominusTuus over the next few days to help my friends who are straggling to finish up their wordcount. if you’d like to join in, I’d love to have you there!

Otherwise, I hope your day has been great, and I hope your writing is flowing as smooth as the turkey gravy!

Until next time guys, keep reading and writing!

Choosing My NaNo Novel

Ah, so… November is literally just around the corner. I can hear it calling to me xD And I can hear the way that my poor husband will start cursing the month – it eats his wife, after all. Still, the NaNoWriMo website was finally relaunched! You can now put up what novel you’re going to be working on… and I am left with a bit of a question…

What do I work on?

I am between two novels in my decision.

One would be the Sequel to the novel that I wrote last year: Cerulean Darkness. This novel is called Obsidian Light. The series is a duology, so I would have that project completely finished (as far as writing… as far as editing? hahaha…) They’re Fantasy/Young Adult novels. I think that it would be great to get an entire series finished, and it would certainly feel like a wonderful accomplishment. Even though I haven’t worked on the book in a year, the characters are still very fresh to me.

On the other hand, there is a part of me that wants to wait until I have completely finished my edited on Cerulean Darkness first. After all, what will happen if I dive into Obsidian Light, and find that there is something, some scene, some character, some portion of the prior novel that I have changed to the point that the entire plot line needs to go in a different direction? I really do not think that this will happen… but I know that sometimes in editing, there are surprises that we do not foresee.

And so… there is my second option. It is a Zombie Apocalypse novel with a twist that I am hoping will make it more original and unique than every other zombie thing that seems to be out there right now. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I know that it would be a fun project to tackle. I am afraid with this, however, I will throw myself out of the Cerulean Series vibe.

So, the real question is… do I go ahead and write Obsidian Light? Do I carry on with my as of yet unnamed Zombie story? Do I rush like a madman to finish the edits on Cerulean Darkness so that my issues with Obsidian Light won’t be so present… or do I work on my plot and plan for Zombie Story?

Hm.

NaNo opens up so many possibilities, and it makes me feel so very creative. I’m never going to be upset over the fact that I have too many ideas!

What do you guys think? Are you facing a similar situation? What are you going to work on for your NaNo project? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, keep reading and writing!
