My rating: 5 of 5 stars
All right – so I got to the reading train a little late for this book… but I’m not regretting the fact that I finally picked it up and gave it a read.
“Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is..”
The book is everything that it promises to be in the little snippit that you get from the goodreads page. I wasn’t sure how I felt about things going in – I’ve not enjoyed an Alien Romance since the Freedom series by Anne McCaffrey. However, I can say that this was pleasantly surprising.
Though there were parts of it that had a slow pace, and though I was sitting and pulling my hair, screaming at the main characters to just go ahead and admit how they really felt to one another… I loved it. Sometimes, what you really want from a book is to be so frustrated that you can’t help but to flip to the next page. My husband was shocked – I finished this book on a 10 hour flight to the Faroe Islands, and every time he looked over, I was on the next chapter.
I couldn’t put it down.
Honestly, I don’t really have complaints about the novel. The story was interesting, and there was more than just a ‘sordid love’ plot to keep it going. I feel like some of the things that were introduced are going to play a big part in the book later on, and I really enjoy that.
I can’t wait to read the next installation in this series, because I know that it’s going to be just as interesting as this one.
The three main characters that the story focuses on are very fun, very engaging… and I can’t wait to see where their story goes next!
I give it 5/5 stars – I’m going to keep on with the series!
