Currently!

Currently Wednesday

I found a blog post over on Katyupperman’s blog, and I found that it was something that I really wanted to do! It’s a thing called Currently – it informs people of what you’re currently up to… and I thought that it would be a fun little update to do on Wednesdays!

Loving

The RP That I’m partaking in. It’s actually an extremely fun point of my day. I generally do between 2-4 replies daily. It’s boosting up my word count, helping me develop my characters even more, and is overall just a joy to participate in. I’d actually forgotten for a long time as to how much I really enjoyed writing with another person, and getting to rediscover that has been a real joy.

Also, I’m still loving Pokemon Go. So there.

Reading

Harry Potter books are on my very soon list, and I’m currently reading Part 2 of the first In The Company of Shadows books. I might bounce around to some other things, depending on what my in the works Book Club wants to do.

Watching

Mmmm, a bunch of horror movies on HBO Go. I’ve been in that mood.

Listening To

Spotify still, though I’ve been going for a lot more of the hard rock as of late. If we want to get technically, right this very current second, I am listening to Lost at Sea by Zedd.

Thinking About

Boosting my word count up. I want this to be a really big month for words, because I really do want to make it to that one million words in a year goal that I have. It’s really close, and I know that I can do it if I put my mind to it… it’s just a matter of getting there. There are going to be days (like yesterday) where I just skate by with 1000 words for the day… so there need to be days where I write 5k+ in order to make up for that lackadaisical performance.

I guess, currently, I’m thinking about discipline and how to properly redefine it for the goals that I have in mind.

Anticipating

I… hm… am I anticipating anything? Oh. I know! I am anticipating Fall. I am anticipating the banishment of this wretchedly hot weather, and the sensation of being cold. I am anticipating being able to always wear a jacket and still want to wrap a blanket around my legs while I’m doing it.

I am anticipating summer being gone, because summer in California is super wretched.

Wishing

That my dogs would take a chill pill. There is someone out in my front yard, and they can’t handle the fact that someone is intruding upon their property. (By they, I mean that my weenier dog/border collie mix cannot fathom as to why someone would dare to challenge her presence… and my mini aussi will occasionally get up and bark with her, I think just to make her feel like she isn’t completely dense.

The funny thing is, the weenier collie is eating, so she’s barking with her mouth full. It sounds ridiculous.

Making Me Happy

My wrist braces. I recently found them both, and it’s helping a tremendous amount with my ability to write. I have so many issues when I don’t have them on – if I write too much, my wrists start to ache to the point that it’s agony to keep going (I do keep going sometimes, shame on me).

Also, and as always (get used to this answer). My husband is making me happy. He’s always making me happy, just by being him.

Thank you for tuning in! If you decide to pick up doing this, comment and let me know! Link me in your post! I’d love to come and check it out!

Until next time, guys! Keep reading and writing, and keep being awesome!~

I found a blog post over on Katyupperman’s blog, and I found that it was something that I really wanted to do! It’s a thing called Currently – it informs people of what you’re currently up to… and I thought that it would be a fun little update to do on Wednesdays!

Loving

Pokemon Go. Yep, that’s right. I am currently loving the Hell out of that game. It’s been really fun, because I have these compulsions to collect things – and to fully collect them. So I’m having one of each type of Pokemon (all versions of evolution included) in my bag, and it’s been really fun. More than that, though… I’m enjoying what it’s doing to my town. I don’t live in the best neighborhood, but I can honestly go out at midnight to one of the shadiest parts of town… and there are 100 other nerds there to make sure no one jumps us.

It’s pretty awesome.

Reading

I just finished reading Fight Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes and writing my Review for it. I’m in the process of selecting a new book to read. Of course, I am re-reading the Harry Potter novels, but I’m doing that a bit slower than usual, because I’m writing about each chapter as I go!

Watching

I am currently watching an anime called Parasyte, and it’s pretty damn amazing. I am really, really… alllllllll about fun, horror, violent animes. I’m awful, I know.

Listening To

xD Spotify. I guess if I’m listening to anything a lot, The Horror of our Love by Ludo. I’ve been flipping back to that baby quite frequently. It’s pretty amazing.

Thinking About

I’m thinking about Camp NaNoWriMo. I’m about 18,000 words in, I need to get another 1k for the day, but I’m not sure what project I want to work on. I may randomly pick a number and just go with it that way. My professionalism in my writing projects is astounding, no?

Anticipating

My Birthday! It’s this Sunday, and I’m really excited. I’m going to go and see a horror movie, get some delicious food, and just enjoy time with people who I care about… which makes me realize that I should probably get to 20,000 words today in Camp NaNo so that I don’t have to worry about it then.

Wishing

Oh, this is a hard one. I’m wishing that the world would just chill out. I’m wishing that people could stop being so hateful. I’m wishing that I could find the strength to try to publish my books. I’m wishing that a goddamn Eevee would show up so I could get a flareon. You know. Just things.

Making Me Happy

Josh. My husband. ❤ He’s always making me happy, so don’t be surprised if that’s the answer here a lot. He’s amazing and supportive, and he always encourages me to do more and push myself with my writing, and that’s exactly what I need. ❤

So, that was pretty fun! I think I’m going to make a habit of this every Wednesday, if only to keep a record of my moods and what I’ve enjoyed. So, thank you for tuning in! If you decide to pick up doing this, comment and let me know! Link me in your post! I’d love to come and check it out!

Until next time, guys! Keep reading and writing, and keep being awesome!~

May Recap

Base Graphic

So, May has come to and end, and with it another month tucked under my belt as far as my writing goals are concerned. While I didn’t get everything that I wanted accomplished (and I’ll touch more on that later), I did get quite a bit of writing done. Even though I might not have done as much as I wanted, I still hit my 1k a day – in fact, I surpassed it, and managed 53,366 words for the month.

I’d say, all and all, that’s a decent amount of words. Here’s my calendar (I’m not doing a screen shot for my Excel document, because it’s not on this computer.) I am still touting the praises of doing stars as rewards!

wp-1464819317302.jpeg

Low and behold, my mighty word count, and all of the blue stars that a girl could ask for. But not really, because I want to get at least 25 more stars than this for June. (That’s right, at least 75,000 words.) My word count for the year is up to just a hair over 400,000… and I really think, if I push for it, I can get that One-Million-Word-Year. It’s what I want – it’s a stretch goal, but you should always reach for the moon!

Onward to what I didn’t accomplish – I want to blog more. I’ve been doing fairly decently with my blogs, but I dropped off on a lot of what I was doing before. I made graphics for it over two months ago xD It’s time that I hop into it.

Writing Tips and TricksWriting PromptWriting PreviewWeekly Writing UpdateFiction FridayBook Review

I made these a while ago, with full intentions of having a topic to discuss for most of the days of the week. I’m going to do weekly writing prompts and updates – those two I am certain of. I’d also actually like to delve more into reading again – I’ve been slacking on that. I want to do at least 2 book reviews a month. I don’t think that’s too much, or pushing myself too hard!

I will continue on with my writing tips and tricks! I still have N-Z in my Alphabet Writing Tips Series, and I’ve been having a lot of fun doing that! If you guys have any suggestions for topics, blog posts, activities, writing prompts, etc, just let me know in the comments! As it is, I need to make one more graphic design, because I’d like to update you guys weekly on my book revision process – I’ve been diving into it, and it’s been enlightening. I may either update you with that on my Weekly Writing Update, or have a day for it all on its own. I’m not sure yet, I’m going to figure it out.

I do know that I want to be even more active with this blog. It’s extremely enjoyable and rewarding to get to connect with other writers, and it’s something that I want to continue to do. Hopefully, within the year, I’m going to actually start doing some vlogs as well – I have that in the works, once I acquire a proper camera and whatnot. I just love getting to hear from, about, and help other people who strive to do that crazy thing called creating.

So, that’s all for my May Update, and I hope that I will hear from you all about anything that you’d like to see! I’ll be posting up another blog tomorrow for the letter N in my Alphabet Tips series. N is for one of my favorite topics – NaNoWriMo! If you have anything to say about it, want to add to the blog, etc, hit me up with some comments! I’d love to make it as big and informative as possible!

Until then!

Weekly Writing Update

2016-01-22

So, I’ve been keeping up extremely well with my writing for this week! And I finally took a little picture of my calendar as well!

12606803_10207604886374047_1241303262_n

So. Here are the two methods that I use to keep myself on track and motivated! My desk calendar is – of course – on my desk! For the calendar, I can specifically write down which stories I work on, and where my words came from. It’s a bit of a mess, and I’m looking to keep it more organized for next month, but I’m still really happy with it.

As far as my words go, I’m already up past 58k, and quickly zooming towards 60,000. I’m just really pleased with how well my writing has been going. Even with some of the emotional issues that I’ve been having, it’s still really successful. Sometimes I end up getting my words at 2am when I can’t sleep…

But words are words are words!

I’ve also started posting my daily writing prompts, like I want to. The responses to those will go up either here, or on my patreon! So please, feel free to click a link to that at the bottom of this post! Also, I want to start featuring other forms of art on here, probably on Sunday or Monday? Poets, artists, photographers, sewing, etc. Anything that is an outlet for creativity. We are all one big community of people trying to get noticed – it starts by us helping one another! So if you have someone to recommend, or want to be featured yourself, let me know!!!!

Until next time, guys! Keep up the creativity!

Why Fanfiction can be Awesome

A lot of people that I know in the writing world used to write fanfiction. They say it in the past tense, like it’s a bad thing. They speak as though they’re too mature for it now. I can admit hadn’t written fanfiction in so many years… until I played Fallout 4. I saw a storyline that was absolutely astounding, and… then… it… suddenly… stopped…

There was so much potential there, for that story. I was sparked with inspiration, and I realized that I really wanted to write a tiny snippet of a story, just to satisfy my need to see the rest of that potential played out.

(Yeah, it’s about Paladin Danse.)

2016-01-08_00002

Of course, I don’t have the ability to write a tiny snippet of anything. The fanfiction in question is currently 35,000 words, and scaling easily up to the size of a novel. Not only have I written this, but in writing about my character in the game… I realized that I really wanted to develop him further. Though you’re given basic parameters for who you are, I had an entire backstory in my mind. He was a character unto himself… and it’s inspired over 50,000 words of separate fanfiction/stories/planning… and I’m not even sorry about it. Fanfiction is okay.

It’s good for so many reasons. The positive response, and the people who you can connect with through a shared fandom is a wonderful feeling. I’ve been working on my novel separately, of course, but I’ve also been working on fanfiction. I’ve been told by multiple people that they enjoy it, and why… and it’s a nice feeling. Sometimes, as a writer, you just need that boost.

So, never feel bad about following your mind, even if it’s in fanfiction. I’ve been more inspired writing these stories than I have in a long, long while. It’s part of what’s been making my 1k a day so easy to do. I’ve been able to write fanfiction, get my gears going, and then work on my novel on the wave of that inspiration. Follow your muse, always!

Until next time, I just wanted to give you guys this small update and inspiration for the day! Enjoy yourselves! Keep reading and writing!

Starting The New Year! Write, Right?!

So, I’m really pleased with my writing regimen so far. I’ve been consistently pumping out words since November, but my plan for 2016 was to write a minimum of 1,000 words a day. It’s been Friday to Friday, and I’m really pleased to give you guys a report on how I’m doing.

2016-01-08 (2)

So, for anyone who is confused – this is my little spreadsheet that Gau made for me! Basically, I can input my words and keep track of how I’m doing/how much I have left to do. I’ve been working on this in tandem with a desk calendar (which I do not currently have a photo of).

On the desk calendar, I’m writing down what projects I work on that day, and how much I’ve written on them! I’ll have a picture of it next week so that you can all see… but all and all, I’ve surpassed 1k every day, and usually soar easily over 2k. I still have some writing to do today… but it’s been such a pleasing, liberating experience. I can tell the difference in my stress levels just from writing. I’m still doing some fanfiction, but I’m also starting to process through finishing Limbo (my NaNo novel from 2014), while editing my Novel from 2016. I am hoping to incorporate fixed editing dates into my calendar as well… but I’m taking it one step at a time!

I should be able to start blogging more frequently soon. I’ve just been lost in writing (and being ill x.x) this week, so I haven’t been on much! But I’m glad to be doing my update! My best advice to you all is this – keep track of what you’re doing. Keep track of how much you write. Keep track of what you’re working on! It really does help. Having that physically written down so that you can see your accomplishments is a wonderful thing!

Thank you all so much, and I’ll see you next post! Until then, keep reading and writing!

2015 in review – Welcome 2016 and New Goals.

So, I’ve kind of laid off of blogging for the last half of December. I wanted to take time to myself, just to really refresh my brain, spend time with family, etc. I can’t deny that this year has been harder on me than I’d thought it would be. I’ve been through quite a bit of loss, quite a bit of stress… but I’ve come out on 2016 kicking. I’d actually been having a lot of writing trouble in the months leading up to November.

When my mother passed away, I thought that it was going to break some delicate agreement between my muse and myself, and that I wasn’t going to be able to write. Instead, my muse wrapped its arms around me and told me not to worry. I’m a writer… and my feelings will come out through my words.

I wrote over 100,000 words for November. I thought that I’d be finished. I thought that I’d be worn out until January. That was my plan. But… I wrote 50,856 words in December. I know. I don’t understand it either. Most of these words were in Fallout 4 Fanfiction (yes, I linked you to my page, lol)… but the point is, it’s there. I wrote, I still feel so compelled to write. My muse hasn’t abandoned me – and though dealing with my sorrow and upset is still hard for me to do, I’m handling it, day by day, word by word.

So, 2015, while a sad year, was also a good year for growing. I have a little report below for my blog stats that my WordPress compiled for me. Before that though, let me just talk about my plans for 2016.

I will write at least 30,000 words every month. I want to write 1,000 words a day. It is my plan. It is my therapy. I will do it. I want to try to blog every day, to do prompts at least every other day (if not every day), and I will do weekly updates on my writing every Monday. I can’t wait. You guys have honestly been amazing. It’s through your support and encouragement that I’ve been able to keep this up – you’re all wonderful, and I’m so thankful for the friends I’ve made along the way!

To 2016! May we all accomplish our goals!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,500 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 42 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

All Of Those Things

That I said were going to be happening will start on Monday. I’ve actually been just… relaxing for right now. I needed to take the whole first week of December to chill out after NaNo, apparently. Which, there’s nothing wrong with that. Writing an entire novel, 102k words in one month… yeah, that deserves a break. xD I’ve been playing a ton of Fallout 4. Cause… it’s amazing. Yeah.

Anyway, keep watching for book reviews (I’m reading a lot again), daily writing prompts, writing tips, etc. I can’t wait! I just wanted to update you all.

Until next time,

Author Amanda McCormick
