horror-prompts

Hey everyone! I do apologize for this being a day late! I didn’t mean for it to happen – yesterday was just busy, and then I had terrible headache. Anyway, I’m going to get these blog responses up in order. So! Here is my response to Prompt #12 first!

The residents of the town were gathered at the ocean – it wasn’t because of a beach party, or fireworks… it was because the ocean was doing something very strange. The waves had almost altogether stopped, because the water was swirling in a near vortex in front of the beach. People had gathered in twos and threes, until nearly everyone in the town was there, some with their cellphone’s out, recording whatever it was that was happening… some clutching their half-sleeping children to their chests, unaware of the fact that it was foolish to have a child out and near such a strange phenomena without knowing what was happening.

Everyone watched, and everyone listened to the gurgling of the ocean, as though it could someone tell them what was happening.

And then suddenly, the swirling vortex stopped, There was bubbling then, and the water roiled like a boiling pot on a stove… and then there were screams. It started with one, and that one scream pierced through the air and caught like a contagion of fear on the wind because the water wasn’t just bubbling.

It was finally giving forth whatever creature had been making it behave so oddly, and the town simply wasn’t ready for it.

It rose, and it was something that no one had true words for – it was all teeth and a snapping mouth. There were tentacles that spread out onto the beach in a whipping frenzy, bringing the closest people on the waters edge up into the air and into that gaping mouth. They died quickly on those razor-like swords that protruded from the beasts mouth, and still, some people couldn’t run. They were too busy looking up in awe at skin that had moss, on a body that had wrecked ships cemented to it with centuries of having laid dormant at the ocean’s depths.

They were too busy looking at the monster that had clearly existed for longer than any of them had been alive, but had just now decided that it would show its presence to the world in front of it.

There was no escaping fascination, and there was nothing to be done for them when those tentacles whipped down again and a new batch of people were ripped up into that hungry maw and devoured.

Heh, I love sea monsters. I love to think that there was something laying asleep and dormant, that close to shore… and when it rises up, people are so in awe that their own safety isn’t even thought about.

Anyway, I’d love to see if you guys responded.

Make sure if you end up doing any of my prompts that you tell me. I’m going to make a list of all of the responses at the end of the month, so we can have a big compilation of horror stories, for anyone who is really in the Halloween mood and wants to get their fix.

Until next time guys!!! Keep reading and writing, and keep being absolutely awesome!
