Book Review

The Martian
The Martian by Andy Weir

My rating: 4.5/5 Stars

I received a copy of this novel from Blogging for Books in Exchange for a Review!

From page to screen, the Martian is a title that I’ve heard a lot about. I’ve had both the novel and film recommended to me, and was waiting patiently to finish the novel in order to pick up the movie! I have to say that things timed out perfectly – the film came up available for streaming, and I decided that it as high time for me to pick up this movie tie-in and give it a whirl.

“Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?”

One of the first things that I want to touch on in this novel is the fact that the author is well informed of the information that he’s giving you. He didn’t simply say “People ended up on Mars.” He actually took us through a process of how they managed it. What was more enjoyable, however, was the fact that he did it in a fashion that the reader could understand, whether they were big on science or not. The fact that he was capable of writing in such a understandable and pleasant to read fashion is one of my big turn ons for this book.

As you can see from the desciption, this book is a real adventure. It’s a page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen to Mark Watney next, and how he’s going to manage to beat the very environment of the Red Planet and all of its twists and turns to get back home, to Earth. I won’t go over much of it with you, because I truly feel that this is a book that you should check out for yourself! I’m going to watch the movie within the week, and we will see how similar the two are!

I can certainly say that I give this book 4.5/5 Stars! It was a wonderful read, and something that I wouldn’t mind to pick up again!

Until Next Time!
